"Don't say that… I've watched Venus grow up, so she's like family to me. There's no way I'd just sit by when something like this happens to her. Besides, being a doctor is like being a parent, so I was just doing my job!" Selena signed.
"Yeah, that's right! A doctor is just like a parent!" Layon chimed in as well, placing extra emphasis on the word "parent" to remind Zayn that Selena treated Venus like her own daughter.
"A ward has been prepared for you, so go ahead and get some rest. Thank you very much, Ms. Benday, " Benard said.
"Don't mention it!" Layon replied with a smile.
I feel like there's something off about all this, but I can't seem to put my finger on what it is exactly… Oh, well… I guess all that matters is Zayn and Venus being all right now… Benard thought to himself as he watched someone escort them to the ward.
"You should get some rest too, Mr. Giblo. We can take care of things here, so you have nothing to worry about! Now that Venus has puked up the poison, her condition will be a lot more manageable!" Naya promised him confidently.
"Make sure you take good care of her. We can't afford to have any more accidents like this."
Zayn was still feeling uneasy as he had yet to see Venus hop down from the bed and call him "Daddy" in her usual sweet voice.
"I know, don't worry!" Naya reassured him before hurrying off to examine Venus.
"We have everything under control here, Thompson. Mr. Jombo must be worried about you being gone for so long, so you should head back too. Besides, you haven't slept all night, so this would be a great time to get some rest, " Benard said as he was concerned.
Thompson nodded. "Yeah, it is about time I get going now. I'll bring Josh with me, Mr. Zayn. The shock kept him awake all night, and he just fell asleep a while ago."
Having him stay here wouldn't do him any good, as everyone would have to look after him in addition to Zayn and Venus. On top of that, Mr. Jombo would feel a lot better if he saw Josh.
"All right, I'll go tell him, " Zayn replied with a faint smile when he saw Josh curled up in a bed and sleeping soundly while drooling all over the pillow.
Guess I never really have to worry about this kid, huh… I thought he'd cry at first, but he's sleeping like a log right now!
"Haha, Josh sure is a good boy!" Thompson said with a smile.
Zayn gently ran his hand through Josh's hair. "Head on over before he wakes up, or he'll have a ton of questions for all of us. You know how much of a chatterbox he can be."
"Haha, okay…"
Thompson motioned at Remon who then wrapped Josh up in a blanket before carrying him in his arms.
Josh turned his body to one side and nuzzled his head against Remon's chest while making a suckling motion with his mouth, much to Remon's amusement.
"All right, get going, " Zayn urged them.
"Is he heavy?" Thompson asked with a chuckle as they left.
"He seems to be about Randy's size, but weighs a little more."
"Hahaha! He can eat more than Randy!"
Zayn's smile faded when he saw them disappear from sight, and a cold look filled his eyes as he gave the order, "Have Brandy investigate the security footage from Seacrest Restaurant in great detail. Tell him to go frame by frame if he has to!"
Benard leaned in and asked softly, "Are you suspecting someone other than Daemon, Mr. Giblo?"
"Daemon may be cruel, but he is still a man of pride. He wouldn't deny it if he was the one who did it. Judging by how angry he got when I accused him of poisoning Venus, it's quite obvious that he's innocent. If he didn't do it, then it must be someone else!" Zayn said as he recalled Daemon's reaction.
