Chapter 8 - Son-out-law

Gregory Peckerman was one of the most shocked and confused.

His plans to have his son-in-law and daughter in a hidden part of his town had a bit of flaw.

The son-in-law he expected was not the one he got and so he was unsure what to do.

He looked at Luca who remained on his mini throne looking at Kayla his daughter who hadn't gotten up from the floor where she laid crying.

Although he had long dealt with the shame of having his and his daughter's name dragged into the mud, the wounds felt reopened when he saw Luca looking at him and then at his daughter, sighing and then walking through the back door.

He was initially able to lay down his pride by putting his daughter's happiness first. But now he didn't even know if his daughter was going to end up happy.

He had always hated Miguel, but never this much.

Nevertheless, for his daughter's sake, he must hide them both. Else if he only hid his daughter, then the careless and heartless Miguel might raise an alarm; and that wouldn't be good at all. So he had no choice but to swallow the chicken and it's poop.

At this point most of the Quailians had left the auditorium.

Most of them had gotten what they wanted, so sticking around would only be a waste of time. The show was over and besides, it's only a matter of time before the guards from the starion family will start forcefully pushing them out. So for safety and honor's sake, most of them left.

While other's especially from the families who lost the 2 persons Miguel fell on, had to carry their dead out of the place. Although they were very unhappy about this occurrence, but they couldn't lay a compaint or request for a compensation. The guards had tightened their defense about Palmer. Naturally all could see that he wasn't in the mood to talk or see anyone for he too had just lost his favourite son. So after much fuss, they just carried their dead and left.

Meanwhile, Gregory who had been looking around and carefully observing the leaving crowd and his daughter on the floor, stood up and walked up to her.

"Kayla, let's go home....", he said giving her a hand.

"Not yet dad!", the crying Kayla spoke up suddenly without looking at her father's face.

"What do you mean not yet?!", Gregory replied confused.

"I need to see Luca!", she added.

"Luca?! What's wrong with you?! Didn't you just have an affair with Luca's brother?! How is he going to even look at you?!", Gregory asked bewildered.

Instead of replying, Kayla got up, wiped off her tears and walked towards the back door.

Gregory stood their speechlessly watching his daughter walk towards the back door.

"When did she grow up this much?", he muttered to himself.

Afterwards, he turned to Miguel, who laid on the floor looking at the ceilings.

He out of curiousity also looked up at the ceiling to see what Miguel was uninteruptedly staring at. When he found nothing, he nodded, sighed and walked up to him and said: "My Lord, you may have a place in my home if you want?!"

On hearing this, Miguel smiled.

"You know how dangerous it is to house a fugitive, don't you?", he asked.

"I am a shoulder ruler, don't you think I must have thought that through before offering such to you?!", Gregory replied with a tone of harshness.

Miguel chuckled some more.

"There's no need to pretend Sir Gregory. Don't worry... I won't tell.....", Miguel replied looking at Gregory in the eyes.

"Hide your daughter very well. And her child, hide him even more...", he replied and turned back to the ceiling which he had been staring at before now.

Gregory stood their speechless and motionless for awhile.

Yes, he hated Miguel, but seeing him lay on the floor with no direction, or anyone to call a friend, his big heart couldn't help but play a role.

"You do know that if you stay here for more than 48hours exposed to all, you will be reported not a minute after the 48th hour, right?!", Gregory asked.

"Isn't it obvious that's what I want? What other fate awaits me besides death?", Miguel spoke and from his words one could already tell that he was a dead man.

"A wise man once told me: it is not over until it's over!", Gregory comforted.

Miguel's face suddenly became brightened up with a smile.

"Really.....?", He asked.

Gregory who was surprised and confused nodded.

"Well it's over!", He said and laid back down.

"You and your father are like the first Roman figure and the letter I", Gregory added, sighed and was about walking away when he heard Miguel call.

"Sir Gregory! Even though you never liked me.... I tell you this with all sincerity; you were my favorite shoulder ruler.", Miguel added and remained quiet.
