Chris was so happy, he decided to keep the book for himself.
As he attempted to do so, the book disintegrated into powder and evaporated.
Fortunately for him, he had some part of the book memorized.
Just then, Davis who ran away was forcefully brought back to the shop by 3 very strong men.
Seeing how red his face was, it was obvious he had taken a little beat down. Chris struggled to hold back his laughter.
This man, his plan was to put the blame on him and run off! So he takes the fall for him, how sad.
At this time, Davis was extremely embarrassed. After running out caught and beaten, he was really tired.
The scene was so funny, his father-in-law was old and fat, and so couldn't run fast. How did he hope to out run these young persons?
When they caught up with him, they tied him up and gave him some slaps, it really wasn't pleasant for him.
They caught and brought him back to the manager, Lan Yuma.
On seeing Davis, Lan Yuma gritted his teeth and said, "Old fool, do you really think you can escape after destroying our vase? You don't want to pay for the damage!"
"It wasn't my intention, the vase was quite slippery!", Davis said afraid.
"Stop talking bullshit! I' give you an afternoon to go make money. And if after that time you are still unable to pay back my money, I'll file a report. Destroying property worth over 5 million should be enough to put you behind bars", Lan Yuma said.
Davis quickly turned to Chris as though he was his last hope, "Chris, my amazing son-in-law, please I will be killed if you don't come to my rescue", he said to Chris as his eyes grew more moist.
"But dad, I don't have the money requested for", Chris replied.
"In that case, you should go to jail in my place! My family has done alot for you, it's time to payback!", Davis added.
'How could such a thing?', Chris questioned in his heart.
Just as Chris was about to refuse, the middle aged man said immediately, "If you think we did you wrong, we are at debt to you, our jintang is the most trusted business in this city. You destroyed a vase and you must pay!"
When he was done talking, he said turned to Chris, "You are free to leave now, but I will advise you help him raise some money, else, I'll send him to station this afternoon!", the man said.
Chris nodded gently.
On hearing this, Davis grew more scared, "Chris, my good son-in-law please don't leave me! What can I do when you are gone?", he said in tears.
On seeing his father-in-law like this, he couldn't help his amusement, but dared not to laugh in front of him.
He thought to himself of an excuse of raising money he could give to leave his father-in-law to suffer.
But then, he remembered an ancient technique used to repair such artifact in the book he just read, and so he turned to the manager and said, "Manager, if I can fix the vase, would you let him go?"
On hearing this, Lan Yuma sneered, "Who the hell do you think you are that you can repair the broken antique. The truth is, I have sent photos of the mess to the Hillsprings cultural and relic appraisal expert!", he said.
On hearing this Chris nodded and said, "Your vase is already broken and now useless, how much more damage can I really do?"
"Alright then, let's see what you can do!", Lan Yuma replied disdainfully.
"Get me a piece of rice paper, a brush and 5 eggs, make sure the eggs are raw!", Chris said.
Lan Yuma at this time wanted to see the kind of joke Chris wanted to make, and without hesitation, he quickly brought a basket of raw eggs for Chris.
As he brought them, he ridiculed, "Using eggs to repair an artifact. I haven't seen such before, but you warned, don't play tricks on me. Better pay the compensation or we are going to take your father-in-law to court. 5 million is all that is needed to save your father-in-law from a lifetime of prison."
To be continued....
