Griffin wasn't really in support of this, but the truth remained that Lilian was more powerful than him here, and so he had no choice but leave her to do what she wanted.
But the classmates on the other hand had no problem with it though, they all wanted to compare the gifts, showing off what they gave and all. They all wanted to see how far the giver had gone in life, and felt they could tell by the gifts.
And one by one, Lilian started calling.
"Thank you James Jon for the 1 thousand in red envelope!"
"Jay mi, thank you for the pair of gold bars!"
"Dan Ro, thanks for the Jade brave!"
She called some more.
"Phillip! Thank you so much for the 10 thousand in red envelope!"
For the first few gifts that were called, were a thousand or purchased at the market for about a thousand or something close to that, everyone remained calm, but when it got Phillips 10 thousand in a red envelope, the students were shocked.
10 thousand in a red envelope for just an opening ceremony, this is too much!
The students looked at Phillip with big eyes as they praised him some more.
On hearing this Phillip felt satisfied, he had surpassed his classmates with ease.
Just then, Lilian mention, "Thank you Chris and Nora for the old painting!"
As soon as they heard this, they all began to laugh.
What's the worth of an old painting? A hundred?
Were these people extra selective? Even in Griffin's restaurant that just opened, a meal should cost hundreds for a person. And now they came together and brought an old painting worth merely a hundred or 2? Aren't they scared of being humiliated?
"Chris, you could afford to buy a BMW and could also afford to modify it. Why can't you afford to bring something decent to Griffin's opening ceremony, why bring such a tattered painting?"
On hearing this Chris smiled.
"Why call it tattered when you don't know its origin?", Chris asked.
"I know what you had in mind! You probably thought you could fool everyone by buying that tattered old painting so don't we won't know its worth. What a fake loser!", Phillip said.
"I mean how much did you even get it, a hundred or eighty even?", Phillip added aggressively.
"That painting has more value that what everyone's gift combined!", Chris replied still smiling.
Phillip immediately began to laugh.
"You still having the courage to speak such rubbish. I gave 10 thousand and other classmates of ours, about 20 of them gave a thousand each, which sums up to 20 thousand. So what are you trying to say? That your old tattered painting is worth more than 30 thousand?", Phillip said.
"You feel it is less", Chris replied with a smile.
And the all his classmates began to laugh.
They all thought Chris was decieteful.
What gift? An old painting? Does he what to tell us that its worth tens of thousands? Who is he trying to fool?
As the argument went on, Lilian began to laugh, "let's not argue., Mr. Chris whose ancient painting is it? Is it worth tens of thousands?", She said.
"The painters name is King Dina, he is not very popular", Chris replied.
"Don't worry, it just happens that my dad is a cultural relic appraiser. His name is York Lune, he is very familiar with antiques. He must have heard his name!", LIlian said.
"York Lune? Cultural relic expert York Lune is your dad? I have seen him on state TV a couple of times!", Tesla said shocked.
"Yes he is my dad! Luckily for us, he is upstairs now. I'll go get him so he can help us have a look at Chris's ancient painting", Lilian replied.
On hearing this, Phillip stood up immediately.
"Lilian is going to get her dad down here right now to have a look at Chris's ancient painting. And if it really does exceed all the gifts presented here today, I Phillip will eat this table right here right now!", Phillip said aloud.
