The old classmates started bringing out their gifts one after the other, offering them to Griffin. Chris was not exempted, he too brought the ancient painting he purchased earlier, handing it to Griffin, "congrats bro, this is from me and my wife, Nora", he said.
"Congratulations Griffin, more money in your account", Nora said smiling.
"Thank you guys so much!", Griffin replied gratefully, and leaned closer to Chris's ear, "I see you and your wife are really close, which contradicts what I have been hearing. So when is the baby coming?", Griffin whispered.
Nora over heard this and couldn't help but blush. Chris smiled and said, "there's no point in indulging in such gossips my friend, when the time is right it will come. But the money is necessary!"
"You are right!", Griffin said, "I'll make sure I wrap your child a big red envelope when that time comes!", He added.
Just then, a woman who was heavily made-up walked up to Griffin, "who are they?", She asked referring to Nora and Chris.
"This is my friend from college, Chris, a good friend of mine! And this is one amongst the 2 most beautiful girls in our school back then, her name's Nora, she's married to Chris!", Griffin explained.
After introducing them to the woman, he introduced the woman to them, "This is Lillian my fiancé", he said.
"Wait.... Chris? You mean the one who can't afford leftovers?", Lilian asked.
She quickly realized her statement and changed her words, "I have heard so much about you 2, you truly are beautiful and talented!", She said with a smile.
Chris acted like he didn't hear her as he gave the gift to Griffin, "this is our little gift!", Chris said.
"Your presence is more than enough! Why bother with gifts?", Lillian said with a smile as she collected the painting from Chris's hand.
"Why don't we go get a place to sit?", Chris said.
"Okay Chris", Griffin said.
"I'm sorry we can't spend some more time together, I have to say hi to other classmates around", he added apologetically.
As soon as Chris and Nora left, Lilian quickly opened up the gift Chris gave them. She found out it was a scroll, "what has your classmate gifted you with?", She said.
"Are you not able to see? It is a painting!", Griffin replied.
"Uhh?", Lillian said as she opened up the scroll, looking in disdain, "what rubbish, an old and tattered painting, he probably got it at a hundred or 2", she said in disgust.
"The price means nothing, what matters is that he gave a gift, that symbolizes affection!", Griffin said in a stern manner.
"Listen carefully, such kind of people should be kept at arm's length. How could 2 people come together to give such rubbish! It can't even pay for their meal!", Lillian said in pissed tone.
"You just a snob!", Griffin said with a frown.
"How dare you say such? Me, a snob? Do you want me to show you how
a snob behaves? Have you forgotten that the money invested in this restaurant is my dad's?", She said angered.
Griffin felt awkward, but couldn't utter a word.
Just then, Phillip walked in on them. Since the incident, he had grown tough, and now walked with a power posture as he earlier did.
When he got there, he immediately gave them a thick red envelope, "Griffin, I see you've done a fine job opening up your restaurant, so I really don't know what to give you. So I decided to wrap up a big red envelope!", Phillip.
Before his sentence ended, Lilian had rushed to accept it.
"Thank you very much!", She said as she squeezed the envelope, she could feel that it was at least 10 thousand in it.
"We are very grateful!", She said happily.
Phillip waved his hand smiling, "I saw Chris giving a gift as well, what did he give?", He asked.
On hearing this, Lilian snorted, "I wondered which garbage he picked it out from. If he bought it, it probably worth a hundred or 2!", She replied.
"Once a poor man, always a poor man!", Phillip said.
