When we got to the ward where Medusa was, I stopped at the door, took a deep breath and walked in.
"Medusa!", I called out with a smile.
She was almost completely transformed.
"How?!", I asked surprised at such a transformation.
"Hello Derick… welcome back!", I heard a familiar voice say from behind and so subconsciously turned back to look at the person.
"Ms. Judith!", I said surprised to see her.
Without saying a word, she walked forward and gave me a hug.
"How?", I said still surprised.
She pulled away and touched my face and spoke with a smile: "it was all you darling!"
"You saved I and my husband, infact the entire fort! We are all grateful and loyal to you!", She replied.
At this time, Medusa had crawled up to where we were.
I felt her presence when she nudged.
I turned back and smiled some more.
"How was this done?", I asked really surprised to see her transformation.
"Easy! Snakes exhibit an ability, one we humans experience but not the way they do. It's known as shedding!", She said.
"In local terms, they change their skin…", she further explained.
Hearing this and looking at her, I was still a bit skeptical in my heart.
"I have seen Medusa changer her skin but it has never been this good. This…… this is exceptional!", I said as she moved around my palm.
She chuckled and said: "I wasn't done. Looking and the zombies and all the people they've bitten, one thing to note is the speed at which biological things happen. If a seed was infused with zombie DNA, it should make a tree in one-tenth the period of the actual one. Using this, I sped up Medusa shedding as well as do some other things I wouldn't want to bore you with. Anyways, there's your snake! All good as new!", She said with a smile.
This has to be the happiest I've been for a while.
With Ms. Judith's intelligence, the cases of death by sickness would be reduced by alot in this fort.
If only I could take her and some others on my mom's rescue mission.
Thinking' of this, I subconsciously turned to Xender who was standing by the corner and quietly observing all this with a somewhat worried expression.
"What's wrong?", I asked.
"It's nothing!", She said immediately and wore a smile on her face.
"Xender…", I called looking at her without blinking.
After a few seconds of reluctance, she finally spoke: "Would you go for the commander's party?"
Hearing her question, I paused for awhile thinking.
The position of Sub commander isn't really a big deal to me…… but, considering what I want to do, I need a couple of people who would be loyal to me to take along for mom's rescue. isn't this dad in heaven offering me a way? If I become a sub commander, I'll have several persons at my control, along with my strength. That should greatly increase the chance of completing my mission.
Thinking of this, I replied with a smile: "I will be there!"
Her face suddenly dropped in shock as she spoke aloud: "why?!"
"I have my reason!", I said as I walked closer to her.
"Would you go with me?", I asked standing directly in front of her.
Her face turned red as she looked away and kept quiet for a while.
"Is that a red face I see?!", Ms. Judith teased.
Xender quickly gave her a stern look as her smile dissipated.
"I'll leave you to think about it…… Medusa let's go get prepared!", I said to as I walked out.
"Derick!", I heard Xender call as I opened the door.
"Yes?", I replied turning to look at her.
"Yes!", She replied.
"Alright then, please save me a good seat!", I said and walked out.
……
I touched my neck and thought: Mom's necklace must be with the lady from before.
When I got out of the room, I was at the hallway when I heard people yelling.
"Derick wouldn't do that?!", I heard a female voice yell.
"How then do you explain it!", I heard a male voice yell.
"June you are being irrational, what would he use it for?!", The female voice yelled.
"I don't know, sell it or something. You know this was the last thing mom gave me before she died!", the male yelled.
At this time, I was already at the front of the door, I opened and walked in.
As soon as I got in, everyone kept quiet as there eyes became fixed on me.
"Theif!", June spoke immediately.
"What?!", I exclaimed confused.
"How did you get this?", He asked lifting up a piece of jewelry.
"Don't you dare lie to me, I'll make sure I beat you up! Remember you are no longer in any zombie's form!", He said aggressively.
His words angered me, but I recognized the piece.
I found it while, just before I met them. How could I have known that it was his.
"April, can you see this! I told you he stole it! Your hero is a theif!", He said.
I tightened my fist, still holding back the anger in me, when Medusa sprouted from the behind me and headed towards June with a great speed.
