Chapter 47 - Tears away from cure

On hearing this, I felt relieved, my mission was almost complete.

"Let's go!", I said about to walk to the cell when April's crying voice said: "My brother!"

"F_ck!", I muttered silently.

"Is he in there?", I asked pointing at the safe house where Derick and the commander entered.

"Yes!", She cried standing and looking at the safe house's door, completely focused on each person that ran out.

"You guys should go get the cure, I'll get my brother!", She said about to run away.

"Wait!", I said holding her hands after gritting my teeth.

"Let's go get him first!", I said.

"What happened to putting the lives of everyone first!", Mrs. Ping added.

Hearing this, I gritted my teeth some more. The confusion I felt a this point was overwhelming.

On one hand, leaving April to go alone is as good as leaving her to die. In as much as we aren't really friends or have any strong connection, she's done too much to let her go like that.

To be honest my reason for attaching such a high value to her is also for Derick's sake. Her feelings for Derick makes her bold and to some extent challengeful of authority. Having such a person with me would increase my force when ever a debate about Derick's case arises. My only fear with her is Derick seeing her as important and keeping her close, other than that she's an awesome ally.

Then there's Ms. Ping, without her, there might be no chance of Derick's restoration. But since her husband died her only concern is herself and her child that's the only reason she is willing to help, so a loss like April's brother means absolutely nothing to her. In fact he dies, it might evening give her a feeling of equality.

Weighing both decision; having Derick and not having a supporter is much better having a supporter and not Derick.

Thinking of this, I said: "Alright April, I'll come for you as soon as I show Ms. Ping the zombies she needs!"

"I understand Ms. Xender! Do what you must!", She said and was about to leave when we heard someone tell: "April!!"

We turned to the direction of the scream, and saw a guy crawling out of the safe house, his leg bleeding seemingly broken.

"June!", April yelled and ran towards him.

Seeing him in this way, I didn't think twice before running there as well.

I hurried helped her lift him up and help her carry him with us.

Wit him on our shoulder, we went directly to the cell where I and Davis was kept.

……

In the prison.

The guards whose arms were shot sat on the floor helplessly as Paul's girlfriend tried to take the arrow out of one of their arms while Paul closed his eyes and looked away.

The one who was shot twice already had the arrows removed, and tied with a cloth, seemingly his shirt, cause he had none on.

Now she was on the other who had just one of his arm shot.

"Perry are you done?", Paul asked closing his eyes as we stepped in.

Perry at this time had noticed the door opening and so turned to us immediately.

Ms. Ping was behind, and so as soon as she walked in, she shut the door. The thud got Paul shocked and so he opened his eyes and looked at us.

"Sub Commander!", He said shocked.

I ignored him and place June on the floor not so far from the door.

"Stay with him!", I said to April and turned to Ms. Ping and said: "come with me."

"Here they are!", I said as soon as we arrived in front of the cell where the zombies we're kept.

They groaned and howled non stop like frogs.

She nodded and said: "I need to go back to my house to get the rest ingredient for the potion."

"Why didn't you say that before?!", I asked with a frown.

"How were we supposed to do that when you were dragging a lame man?", she asked back.

She did have a point, but I won't tell her that.

"There's no time for this, let's go!", I said as we both stepped out.

……

We maneuvered throw the field till we got to her house.

At this time, some zombies had the house surrounded, trying so hard to get in.

"Why are they trying to get in? Is someone in?", She asked in a somewhat excited tone.

She probably thinks her husband is still alive.

"I don't know.", I replied. But as soon as my voice fell, I remembered that we left Davis and Helen in.

"....", I opened my mouth about to speak when I saw Ms. Ping walking towards the door.

I quickly kept quiet. She probably thinks her husband is still alive and inside, if I told her otherwise she might be non chalant once again.

So I watched as she walked forward, picked a stone and threw it on the roof.

She stared for a while, bent down and picked another and threw again.

This time it got the attention of the zombies and they turned to us and were about to attack.

"What the f_ck are you doing?!", I said stringing my bow with some arrows.

She remained unmoved, instead threw some more stones on roof.

Suddenly a thick smoke puffed from the wall edges of the house and one by one all the zombies in front of the house began to drop on the floor.

"What the f_ck?!!", I couldn't help but exclaim.

After that she rushed towards the door and yelled: "wo de airen!"

Wo de what?!

When she opened the door, she looked inside and dropped down with a thump, knelt down and began to cry.
