"That might be a possibility." Zayn narrowed his gaze.
"Tell me who tried to frame her then?" Jombo arched a brow in question. "Thompson went over the surveillance cameras. She was the one who ground the coffee beans, brewed the coffee, and brought it to your office. No one else was involved in the process."
After a pause, something occurred to him.
"Oh, right. She bumped into Benard in front of your office, " he sneered. "Are you saying Benard poisoned the coffee and framed it on her?"
"Oh!" Benard exclaimed in shock. "I did nothing."
"After taking the coffee from her, Benard entered your office. We don't have access to the surveillance cameras inside your office, " explained Thompson as he gave Zayn a polite bow.
"Of course, Benard should be a suspect as well. If you think my decision isn't fair enough, I can send both Benard and Carla to the police so the police can decide for themselves."
Benard glanced at Zayn sheepishly and said nothing.
"Otherwise, you can give us access to the surveillance cameras in your office to see whether Benard was the culprit, " suggested Thompson.
"No need, " Zayn sat down on a chair and declared. "There isn't any surveillance camera in my office!"
"Then—"
"It wasn't Benard." Zayn was sure about it. "He has worked with me for ten years. I have total control over him, so he wouldn't have done something that silly."
Thompson immediately gazed at Carla. "So—"
"It wasn't her, too." Zayn cut him off. "She went to my office again after the incident. If it was her, she would've retrieved the cup and destroy the evidence. She might be a fool, but there's no way she'd be foolish enough to leave the evidence there."
"You're defending her!" Jombo roared. "Shelley is your fiancée! Someone poisoned her, and she's unconscious. Her life is in danger. How dare you defend another woman right now?"
"I am only stating the facts, " Zayn insisted.
Carla gazed at him. Luckily, he trusts me. I'm glad he's still trying to defend me.
"That's enough!" Jombo was impatient by now. "I need to give Layon an explanation."
"What are you doing? Take her away!"
"Yes!" Thompson moved to carry out his order.
"No!" Carla was flustered.
"How dare you?" Zayn bellowed.
Thompson immediately came to a stop.
"Are you trying to go against me?"
Jombo hit the ground with his cane in fury.
Fed up, Zayn made a gesture.
Brandy and his men surrounded Thompson and the rest promptly.
"Sorry, sir, " he spoke meekly.
Frowning, Thompson glanced at Jombo.
"Y-You!" Jombo shook in anger. His hand gripping the cane was trembling slightly. "How rude of you to…"
"Mr. Giblo, please calm down, " Thompson hurriedly consoled him. "Mr. Zayn isn't going against you. He just wants to investigate the matter himself."
"Thompson is right." Zayn nodded. "Grandpa, I'll investigate the matter thoroughly. Don't you worry. But now, I won't allow you to take them away."
"I insist on punishing her right now." Jombo refused to give in. "Otherwise, she might do something worse in the future!"
"Grandpa—"
"Calm down, Mr. Giblo!" Right then, Layon hurried over to them. "Shelley has regained consciousness. Dr. Goman said she's in a stable condition now."
"Shelley is awake? Good, good." Jombo heaved a sigh of relief. "Let's go and visit her."
