Chapter 36 - A god's demon!

When we had a proper look at the speaker, we discovered he had his body embalmed like a dead egyptian in a tomb. His pupils were red as though hell was burning in them.

Wasn't he laying on the floor some minuites ago, when did he get embalmed, when did he go to hell and back?

"Derick!", Helen yelled with tears heard in her voice.

The rest of them stood there dumbfounded.

"Is this for real?", June said as he stared at him.

The speaker turned to the fat zombie who was on the floor.

With a whip of the chain, the zombie splitted into 2 and exploded.

"Marvelous!", Judith's husband blurted out in excitement.

The rest zombie stood there with their eyes red as though they saw fire. They made no moves what so ever.

He walked admist the crowd of zombies with his chain lifted up, and then began to spin.

As it spinned the zombies it came in contact with were turn to pieces.

Such power! Such effortless kill! Seemingly untouchable.

Like a god, he slaugtered the zombies without a scratch on him.

This isn't Derick, this is something else.

In a few minutes the fleet of zombies had gone molten, shattered and melted on the ground as though incenerated.

He stopped his movements abruptly and turned to us. No one dared say a word, we just stared at the soul-less looking person that claimed to be Derick.

"Derick!", April broke the silence and ran towards him as she cried aloud. She jumped and hugged him.

He remained unmoved what so ever.

Everyone who witnessed this couldn't take their eyes off her, they too feared that he wasn't himself.

"Are you okay?", she stopped hugging and asked noticing his attitude.

He looked at her and said nothing, "April! step back! I am not sure Derick is sane! We don't even know if he knows you even!", June said with a pinch of fear in his voice.

On hearing this, she took a step backwards and asked: "Derick, do you know me?"

Everyone kept quiet as they anticipated his answer.

"Apr..il", he said slowly.

"He does!", she said and ran towards him again, hugging harder that the last and continued, "I thought we'd lost you!"

As soon as April let go, Helen too ran forward, and hugged him.

I stood there trying to put the puzzle pieces together in my head, still not convinced Derick's fine.

"We have been saved by Derick, let's head home!", Helen said aloud excitedly.

"I don't think that's a good idea!", I said to everyone's hearing.

As soon as my voice fell, they all turned to me, looking at me in annoyance, their hearts clearly saying: "what again?"

"Why?!", Helen, the only one who dared speak, asked immediately.

"I think we should camp out here till the morning, it won't be too safe running into those creatures in the night!", I replied.

"Nonsense!", Helen said, turned to Derick, then continued: "We have Derick on our side, you've seen what he is capable of, I don't think we would have any trouble going back to the fort."

"Sub commander Helen is right!", a troop member said.

"Yeah! And besides we left the fort unprotected!", another troop member added.

This guys aren't seeing reasons with me, how sure are we that this isn't another zombie even more deadly than the rest trained for this purpose, to fool us and evade our fort from the inside.

In as much as I want to believe this is Derick, I honestly just can't, something's not right and these guys are too blind to see it!

Just when I thought I had lost in the matter, a voice came up, "Xender is right! We should camp here for the night! Even with Derick, we can't all guarantee our safety. Being ambushed in the night is as good as running blindly in a busy road; you'll never know what hit you or in this case who has been hit!"

Judith gave a better reason why we should stay and the crowd seemed to consider her reason.

I could tell from the way she looked at Derick that she was thinking the same thing.

We need to study him and see who he truly is, or what he is capable of.

We went back into the cave, the night was cold, but everyone stared at Derick as though he gave their eyes warmth.

Medusa who was knocked out unconscious laid beside the cave, while being cared for by Helen and Judith, but the so-called Derick didn't seem to care, which is very much unlike him.

Derick who could sacrifice his comfort for this snake, now doesn't seem to care even if the snake dies. He just sat by the corner of the cave staring at the plane sky, which had just the moon.

I took the initiative and walked up to him.

"Derick, what happened?", I asked.

He kept quiet for awhile as he continued staring at the moon, and then out of no where, he asked: "do you ever wonder what exist beyond the sky?"

I didn't expect the question, so I was quiet for a moment; I looked up, then replied: "Sometimes!"

"Do you believe in other worlds?", He asked again.

This time, I wondered why he asked such questions.

"I wish they were... but no, I don't believe in them", I replied.

He brought his head down, turned to me and said, "don't doubt it's existence! Hell's a totally different world!"

When his words were uttered, I stared at him and really didn't know what to say.

"A certain boy died and went to hell!"

He continued: "There, he made a friend, hades, the god of the underworld, son of Cronus and Rhea!"

On hearing this I was more puzzled, he hasn't been dead for up to 12 hours and he has become and entirely different person.

"If he died and met hades, how then were you able to know the story?", I further asked clearly doubting.

I have long doubted the tales of another world, if other worlds truly existed, who went there, and came back to tell stories about them.

On hearing my question, he kept quiet. Could he be referring to himself; if so he must have given something up to come back.

I really didn't believe in these gods, but if they truly exist that means all I have heard about them is true and so they wouldn't let him go just like that.

"So it's true!", we heard a voice say from the dark.

Everyone drew back in fear; all but Derick.

"Who's there?!", Helen asked immediately.

"Come on guys, you really hurt my feelings. At this point, you guys still can't recognize my voice! How many zombies can speak this well?", White alpha stepped out of the dark.

"White Alpha!", Judith exclaimed.

"The tales of Derick, who went to hell and sacrificed his soul to come back to earth with the power given to demons by gods.... They are all true!", he added.

So that's what he sacrificed!

Just then, Derick stood up with the chain in his hand and without an expression on his face.

"ooo! Demon Derick wants to do something!", White Alpha said sarcastically.

"Bring out the magnets!", he yelled as Derick continued walking towards him at an extremely calm pace.

"Turn it on!", he added aloud.

Like a moving vehicle, the magnet came on, shouting aloud.

Before our eyes, Derick's chain was pulled forcefully towards this magnet.

But to everyone's surprise, White Alpha included, the chain stopped mid air; Derick's hand didn't let go! His expression remained unchanged, showing no trace of struggle.

"Impossible!", White Alpha blurted out as the magnet flew from the ground towards Derick.

In a magnetic field, the less stronger object will always move towards the stronger one, that was seemingly the occurence tonight.

I know now that he has been gifted, or rather he had traded with the gods, but such power......

As soon as the huge magnet came in contact with the chain, it had a huge thud and the ground and broke.

"Attack!", White Alpha yelled in fear as he stepped back.

Without even looking at what he had destroyed, Derick swung his chain at White Alpha and before White Alpha could run or dodge, he and some surrounding zombies were shattered to pieces.

The camp went wild, did Derick just kill White Alpha?

The celeberation came to an abrupt stop as the zombies who had been lurking in the shadows began to show thier ugly heads one after the other.

"Fear not! We still have Derick on our side!", Helen yelled seeing their numbers continue to multiply.

Someone decided to take up a stick of fire and threw it in the air, towards these monsters.

Their numbers were indeed great! Infact they were everywhere; like water in an ocean, beyond where the eyes could see.
