"Let's go!", I said trying to get away from the noise as some people began to fight and yell.
I got back into the car and Mrs. Jane soon followed.
I began to drive towards the Catholic church with the help of Mrs. Jane.
When I got close, I saw some priests praying around the corpse hanging on the tree from behind the caution tapes placed strategically seemingly by police detectives.
"Oh my God!", Mrs. Jane exclaimed on seeing this.
I parked some distance away and we both got down from the car to get a closer look.
"What happened, how did..... Wait! Why are we here? Are we here because of that?", Mrs. Jane asked and stopped walking.
I wonder how her husband was able to do all the things he did directly under her nose with this level of trust issues.
"I followed the bread crumbs...", I said and continued walking towards the priests and corpse.
".....I'll stay back, I really don't want to see that!", Mrs. Jane said as she walked back to the car.
Perfect, I was actually thinking of a way to send her back.
"Can you drive?", I asked.
"Of course I can!", She stopped to say with a smile.
"Here!", I said tossing the car's key to her.
"Please drive back to the place where those people were picking up money.", I said to her.
"What about you?!", She asked surprised as she held the key in her hand.
"Don't worry about me, I'll be there soon.... You can have all the red snack bars in the bag.", I added about to walk away when her expression suddenly became ugly.
"You..... What?!", She said a bit confused.
"Please Mrs. Jane, it's for our own good, I'll explain everything later, I promise....", I added.
She looked at me for a while, exhaled heavily, hissed and walked back to the car.
I proceeded, approaching some priests not praying, just moving around and talking with some cops.
"Stay back!", One of the priest who wasn't praying said to me as I approached.
"We need to cleanse this area!", He added putting his hand forward with a stop gesture.
Oh please! Cleanse what?!
If I really needed to get through to conduct my investigation, I would have knocked this priest out with a stone.
I forced out a smile and said: "I won't get any closer, you do what you have to do."
"Why are you here?!", He asked with a frown.
I really hope this priest doesn't mistake my politeness for weakness.
"Just here to see first hand how the owner of Fultain died...", I replied.
"Fultain?! What is Fultain?.... You know him!", The priest asked with some level of surprise.
".... You don't look like you are from around here either....", He added now thoroughly assessing me.
"He's a top shot at Visfa, that's all I know about him....", I said and was about to walk away when the priest spoke aloud: "Officers!"
"Yes?!", the officer said as he walked closer to him.
What's wrong with this bastard?!
I could tell from hearing, because at the time, I was already a few steps away from the priest.
"That boy knows this man, don't you think he should be detained and properly questioned?!", He added.
I wonder if god's disciples grow up without brains, or the god factor takes it out.
"Hey! Youngman!", The cop called as he approached me.
I who had walked a few more steps stopped as the cop ran after me.
"Excuse me, I was told you know about the deceased!", He added as he approached me.
"Not so much, how can I be of help to you?!", I asked.
He quickly put up his pen and paper, looking at me, paying in-depth attention and spoke: "fill me in on the little you know."
"He's the owner of a restaurant in Visfa named Fultain, which recently hosted a gun fight", I added.
He jotted this down and asked: "Anything else?"
"No sir!", I replied.
"You sure?", He asked with a stern expression.
"No sir!", I replied once again.
He looked at the priest and then back at me, then muttered a "Thank you!"
"You are welcome, I'll be on my way now", I added as I walked away.
I walked like that until I found a cab and stopped it.
"Mistown bank", I said as I got in.
"You want to join in on the money picking eh?!", The cab driver asked with a smile.
"No", I replied coldly.
My harsh reply made him pause for a while, but he was still able to squeeze out another smile and say: "it's finished though, but I am sure Beau bae's going to do another real soon."
"Beau bae...", I added with an eased up tone.
The driver who seemed to have been trying to start up a conversation quickly held on to this one as expected, and began to speak.
"Beau bae......"
To be continued......
