After a couple of minutes of talking, the door opened once again and dad walked in with a bag on one hand and a nylon bag with a huge burger logo.
"Here are your things", He said handing the bag first bag over to Kareen.
With a smile he brought out the other and added: "have this as well, I have talked with the nurses, she'll make food provision for you as well."
"For now, you girls should have this.", He replied as Kareen took the bag from his hand with a smile.
"Thanks dad!", she said as she brought the burgers out of the bag.
"Your mom sends her regards.", He said and was about to walk away.
"Dad, you sure you okay?", I asked.
He turned to Kareen then at me, and replied with an obviously forced smile: "……I am fine"
"Dad!", I called looking into his eyes.
"Katie, I am alright!", He added and quickly paced towards the door.
"The nurse said you should be able to move your head by tomorrow. I'll be back then to check up on you girls and hopefully, so will your mom!", He added stepped out.
After he left we chatted some more while eating until it was night.
Amidst our discussion we were served food by a fat old lady whose lips were painted red. I mean literally painted red; her face fat made her look younger, but her white hair couldn't hide her age.
With her brown set of teeth, she served I and Kareen bowls of hot soup.
Her face and that of the soup was really discouraging. As soon as she left, I asked Kareen to throw it in the toilet and we continued chatting some more; lucky dad got us burgers.
……
"It's time for the last medication for the day.", The nurse said as soon as she stepped in.
"Sweetie, you might wanna go to bed now.", She said to Kareen.
"Bit it's only 9;06!", Kareen replied looking at the time obviously displeased.
I didn't even notice how long it's been.
"Young lady, I ain't going to repeat myself!", The nurse said harshly to Kareen.
"And why are these burger bags still here?!", She added as she kicked them away angrily.
That was unexpected, this nurse has always been polite; why the unexpected change?
"Stay calm!" she said as she pulled out the big niddle and her phone, which she looked at for a brief second and placed on the bed to hold the niddle properly.
Before I could say a word, I felt the niddle pushing through my flesh.
"Ugf!", I exclaimed as she pushed the content into my skin and took out the niddle, and afterwards cleaned it up with a tiny wool.
"Where did she go?", The nurse asked as she looked around, seemingly for Kareen.
"Kareen!", I called a bit scared.
Could Denzel have abducted her?
"Please help me look for my sister!", I said attempted to get up and fell back to the bed.
"Don't worry, just get some rest. She probably just trying to avoid sleep… I'll go look for her!", The nurse said and walked out with her fist clenched.
Oh dear!
I hope this nurse doesn't do anything to my sister!
For her sake I hope she doesn't go as far as even raising a hand at her.
Just then, I heard a buzz by the side of my bed.
"Uhh!", I exclaimed as I picked up the phone.
When I put it on, I realized it wasn't my phone but the nurses.
And the buzz was caused by a message which was sent.
And it read: "Pls don't call me eva again! u wanna to focus on ur career,fine.Do it alone. Face it,it's ova!"
Oh my God.
Guess this is the reason behind her attitude tonight.
Just as I held the phone, the door was pushed open and in shock, I let go of the phone.
It fell and made a loud thud on the ground.
I looked at the door and saw Kareen rushing towards me.
"Are you okay?! Where's the nurse with the big niddle?!", She asked as she picked up the phone.
"Phew!", I exhaled now realizing that it wasn't the nurse but just Kareen.
"She went in search of you.", I replied.
"Me?! What did I do?", She asked with an attitude.
"She thinks you ran away because she asked you to sleep.", I replied.
"Oh please! Sleep, hell no! Didn't you see the big niddle she held?!!", She said with a terrified expression.
"You're not scared of ghosts but are of big niddles?!", I added about to laugh.
"Don't you dare!", She added with a playful expression.
I laughed out loud as she turned the phone around.
"Why did you drop the phone?", She asked as she pressed the power button.
"Don't!", I exclaimed as her eyes went left to right on the phone's screen seemingly reading the text.
"Oh!", She exclaimed looking at the phone with a dazed expression.
Just then the door opened again.
"There you are! You made me loose my phone", The nurse said seeming really angry.
"Is that my phone?!", She asked with an ugly expression.
