When Donald was still trying to convince him, Daemon was getting very annoyed.
"This is my personal matter, so I'll decide what's best for myself.You don't have to be bothered by it, Uncle Donald"
Daemon then proceeded to send Donald away by saying, "It's getting late.You should go home and rest."
With that, he gestured for Donald to leave.
Seeing that, Daemon's subordinates immediately approached Donald to send him out.
Although Donald was fuming, he said patiently, "Daemon, I know you're an arrogant man.All these years, you've been doing things your way, and we've never stopped you.However, this concerns the Lierger family, so I hope you can think about it thoroughly."
After saying that, Donald left feeling helpless.
With his head lowered, Daemon sat on the couch and sipped his tea in silence.
There seemed to be something weighing on his mind.
Right then, Norah delivered him dinner and uttered caringly, "Mr.Lierger, you haven't eaten anything all day.Have some food, okay?"
"All right."
Daemon glanced at the dishes on the table, but he had no appetite at all.
"Mr.Lierger!"
At that moment, Harrison rushed in and gestured for everyone to leave.
Silence fell, and only Daemon and Harrison were left in the room.
Harrison uttered softly, "When I was on my way here, Charles had told me about what happened at the company.I've looked into the matter.In fact, Mr.Adams had already contacted the Pakison family secretively prior to this.Besides, he had long been interested in Ms.Pakison.He had only taken the opportunity to announce it to everyone at the conference today"
"It seems like he did that on purpose to get my attention." Daemon grinned.
"I don't understand.If Mr.Adams wants to unite the three great families, why doesn't he just do it secretively? Why would he alert you?"Harrison asked curiously.
"Why wouldn't he?"
Daemon chuckled coldly and added, "If he gets to choose, he would rather have me as his ally.After all, the three great families are still no match for me if they were to link up.If I don't give in, they'd rather risk everything they have to take me down.
"What should we do now, then?" Harrison was getting uneasy.
"When Donald came to look for you, did he want you to arrange a marriage with the Pakison family? If you do that, at least the three great families would still be on our side, and Lierger Corporation wouldn't get dissolved.Otherwise, Lierger Corporation might crumble if Mr.Adams ends up being in control in the future.When that happens, Donald might be in trouble as well.Now that he's on the same boat as us, he does have a point.If Mr.Adams were to marry Penny, things might not turn out great for us."
"Yes.I know."
Daemon nodded.
"However, I can't marry her"
"Yes.But..."
Harrison didn't dare to finish his sentence because he was well aware of Daemon's temper.
Once he had decided on something, no one would be able to change his mind.
"I would be a coward if I have to sacrifice my feelings and body in exchange for power and status."
Daemon knew what Harrison was about to say, so he gave him his answer right away.
"Still, the current situation isn't favorable to us." Harrison uttered cautiously.
"We're now facing internal turmoil as well as external threats.Although everything might seem manageable now, the consequences might be catastrophic when something bad happens."
"Indeed.I'll talk to Mr.Adams—"
Suddenly, Daemon's phone rang, and it was Penny on the other end of the phone call.
Surprised, he picked up the phone.
"Penny?"
"It's me, Mr.Lierger."
Penny uttered in her soft and sweet voice.
"Can we meet? I'm parked right outside your castle."
"I'll get them to let you through."
Daemon shot Harrison a glance.
Harrison immediately relayed his order before asking Daemon, "Mr.Lierger, should I go and get her?"
"No." Daemon answered coldly.
"All right, then."
Harrison didn't dare to say another word, but he was feeling somewhat helpless.
Now that Penny is a key person, why can't Mr.Lierger treat her nicer? If this goes on, how is he going to win against those scheming families?
