On hearing my name, I paused for a while, a little skeptical.
All I thought about now was mom's words. Dreams mixing up with reality.
I stood still and tried to listen once again.
After a short while of not hearing anything but the night crawlers, I walked to my room.
Shutting the door behind me, I heard another open. Seemingly Kareen's.
I remembered how sad she was at the hospital and decided to go out to comfort her.
When I got out, I saw her shadow as she walked down the stairs.
I couldn't help but wonder, why's she going down?
I followed quietly till I got to the staircase from which I could see her walk to where Jimmy was.
She stared at him for a while and then sat directly opposite him across the dinning table.
They were both sitted in the quiet dinning hall, all that could be heard was the crickets and frogs.
The silence was getting to awkward and even I wasn't comfortable with it.
But still, I kept quiet and watched.
Just then, he chuckled lightly and said: "Shouldn't you be sleeping..."
"Yeah.... But somethings are more important. How are you?", Kareen replied.
"Honestly.... Not so good.", He replied.
"Hey.... I am a child, but also a great listener.... Trust me, I listen to my dolls chat for hours.", Kareen said.
As soon as her voice fell, Jimmy began to laugh awkwardly and so did she.
"I wish your sister could be more like you....", He said.
Hearing this, I felt my heart tighten.
What the f_ck?
Kareen? ..... She's.... she's..
"Nah, Katie's great. She's cute, can be caring sometimes especially when she's not trying to annoy you!", Kareen said with a smile.
"Hmmm...... I tried calling her earlier.... She ignored after standing there for a while", as he spoke he looked at the top of the staircase.
I quickly withdrew, quietly crawling back up.
After a while I poked my head to spy once again.
F_ck?
He was the one calling.... This ghost and dream thing is to blame for all this!
Kareen chuckled awkwardly and said: "she's been going through this dream thing lately."
"What's that?", He asked.
"She thinks she's been seeing ghosts...", Kareen replied.
"Really?", He replied.
"Yeah... It's been really serious lately!", She replied.
You bastard, weren't you the who pranked me to this state.
Now I don't even know what to believe anymore.
Jimmy chuckled and spoke: "But ghosts aren't real... She seems like a really clever girl..."
Ouch!
"She.... She... She's okay. I think I am to blame though, I once tried to make her believe in em cause I was once a believer. But I've found out that ghosts don't exist.", Kareen Said.
As soon as her voice fell, the lights flickered.
"Woah!", Jimmy said looking up.
"That's strange... As soon as you said ghost's don't exist the lights flickered.", As soon as his voice fell, the lights flickered once again.
Kareen looked around with a strange frown and the spoke: "let's talk about something else. I am irritated by my childish past!"
As soon as she finished speaking, they became quiet for a while.
After a while if silence, Kareen spoke: "You've been staring at that place for a while now, is anything there I should know of?"
He turned back to her and said in a distressful manner: "I really can't get a grasp of what's going on. A couple of months ago, I lost my dad. Just yesterday, my mom stood there... Just there..", he said pointing at the place he had been staring at.
"......my mom who thought me not to steal no matter what, stole. She stole and was humiliated... disgraced.... All for my sake. On the way home, I was so stupid, I didn't even want to talk to her, I didn't even want to look at her because I was... I was stupidly angry....", As he spoke, he applied pressure on the bread in his hand, squeezing the life out of it.
"…… Now... Now I don't even know if she'll ever open her eyes to see my sorry face once again."
After he finished speaking, Kareen place her hand on his as he cried, "what really happened? I mean the accident.", Kareen asked.
He kept quiet for while, sniffed twice, stared into thin air and began to speak: "after leaving, we boarded a cab and was heading home when out of no where, we felt a great force hitting the cab we were on directly, seemingly a huge truck."
"The impact was directly from my mom's side of the cab. When I opened my eyes, our cab was at the side of the road.", He explained.
"You want to know what the funny thing is?", He asked.
"What?!", Kareen replied inadvertently.
"I didn't see the bastard who did this; I and the driver sustained no injuries what so ever. Almost like someone deliberately tried to kill my mom. Which makes absolutely no sense!", He said in a crying tone.
Kareen remained quiet.
Admist the silence, I heard my name, just like I did in the kitchen.
I turned around and realized how dark the hallway was and how I was the only one in it.
"F_ck!", I exclaimed a bit scared.
"Katie..", the faint call came again.
I kept on staring at the pitch darkness.
Suddenly the lights flickered and standing there once again was the boy with bloody hands.
"Help me...", He said and the lights went off again.
To be continued.......
