"Mommm!!!!", I screamed again this time closing my eyes in fearas as I dropped the bread knife.
Shortly after, I heard the sitting room door open forcefully.
"What's it?!", I heard Kareen yell.
"Katie!!", Mom called.
I turned around and opened my eyes partially. On Seeing mom, I hugged her immediately, crying, "mom there's.... There's...", I stammered pointing behind myself at the kitchen's door.
"There's nothing here!", Kareen said turning to me.
Mom held me and walked to the kitchen.
"Sweetie, there's nothing here!", Mom comforted.
"That can't be", I said, opened my eyes and added: "there was... There was... A little boy...."
As I spoke, my legs trembled as I walked inside the kitchen still scared.
"A little boy?", Mom asked as she followed closely behind.
"Yes, mom, his hand was covered in blood...he was standing right here!", I said looking out the window.
Mom looked at me awkwardly
In tears I screamed: "I am serious mom, why won't you believe me!"
Mom hurried rushed to me and held my face saying: "Sweetie relax, it's possible you are just imagining things! Remember what I told you about dreams and how they can sometimes ferment themselves to make us think that they really do exist in our reality."
"I know what I saw!", I roared as I turned around looking for an evidence.
"There!", I said as I spotted a drop of blood on the ground.
"What's it?", Mom asked as Kareen hurried forward as well.
"Blood!", I said pointing at it.
Kareen hurriedly squated in front of it.
"False alarm sis, this is ketchup!", Kareen replied as she picked the mop not so far from and cleaned it up.
"See!", Mom said looking at my face once again.
"Sweetie don't get yourself worked up and ruin the pretty face you've been saving to impress your crush!", Mom replied.
Hearing this, the heart beating for fear, leaped several times in nervousness and embarrassment.
Just then we heard the car horn aloud.
"That must be dad! Let's go before he gets angry!", Mom said as she pulled me out of the kitchen.
"Kareen please clean up! I'll explain to your father.", Mom said as we hurried out of the kitchen with her hand pulling mine.
……
Few minutes later, Kareen stepped out with a complicated expression.
She got into the car, sat down at the backseat with me and looked out the window without saying a word.
"What's wrong?", I asked.
"It's nothing!", She said and continued staring out the window.
……
We arrived at the hospital after a few minutes.
We got down from the car and walked inside the hospital with dad taking the lead.
After walking for awhile, he finally stopped and knocked on a door.
"Come in!", We heard a male voice say.
Dad pushed the door open and we all walked in one after the other putting up solemn faces.
Getting in, we saw Jimmy sitting next to his mom on the bed.
As for Mrs. Bell, she had bandages running from her head to her toe.
From mere observation, one could easily conclude that she was involved in a very fatal accident. Like a lucky survivor in a plane crash, or a car that fell of a bridge, or a pedestrian hit by two cars.
But then, Jimmy was also in the same car, and not even a scratch can be seen on him. Could his mom be that unlucky? Or him that lucky?
Thinking of Jimmy being very lucky, I felt slightly excited.
If we were together would I have a share in this luck.
Dad stepped forward and said: "Jimmy, how's she doing now?"
"She's been this way since you guys left! She's hasn't even opened her eyes once.", Jimmy replied with a sad face.
He seemingly didn't even recognize my presence.
Seeing this, I couldn't help but question his luck again.
At such a young age, he has lost his dad, and his mom seemingly on the same path.
Even if he really was lucky, his luck clearly isn't contagious, probably counter productive or parasitic even.
I am probably just thinking.
Snap out of it Katie!
"Oh!", Mom exclaimed with an ugly expression as she walked towards and leaned forward to hug him.
As soon as mom hugged him, he broke down in tears, crying on her shoulder.
At this point, I stared totally confused.
The strong and charming Jimmy suddenly crying like a child.
I looked at my dad and then my mom, pictured myself in his shoes and in that moment, my heart felt a sudden ache.
My eyes had gone moist already and some tears had began to escape.
I wiped with one of my hand and turned to Kareen.
She too stood there, looking even worse than Jimmy, crying heavily with mucus coming out of her nose.
This was highly unexpected.
The only one at this point not crying was dad.
"Jimmy, have you had anything to eat?", Dad asked.
Mom refrained from the hug to hear his reply.
He nodded no as he wiped his tears.
"There's no need to dwell here then, let's go back home and get you something to eat.", He said as he stepped forward and patted Jimmy on the shoulder.
Jimmy turned to his mom with an hesitant expression.
Mom put a hand on his shoulder and said: "I know you want to be here when she wakes up. Every mother would love to have their child beside them in such situation. But if she's wakes up and finds out that you haven't eaten, she may not be able to forgive herself for putting you through this."
After speaking, she held Jimmy's hand and said: "we'll be back here first thing tomorrow morning."
After a while, Jimmy stood up and followed.
……
After arriving home, mom hurriedly got several slices of bread for him as well as lemonade.
"This should be perfect on an empty stomach", mom said with a smile.
We all stood there staring at him awkwardly.
"Let's leave him alone!", Dad said as held mom's hand.
Hearing this, we all started dispatching.
I lagged behind them all, walking slowly up the stairs, looking back from time to time at Jimmy as he ate.
I sighed softly and looked back forward, about two to three steps away from the hallway when I heard a voice call: "Katie!"
To be continued.....
