At that thought, he was ridden with worry. After making the rest of the arrangements for Zayn and Nella's meeting in the evening, he was thinking of calling Brandy when Freda's call came in.
As she had asked to meet him, he had no choice but to delay the call.
Due to the lesson from last time, Benard became much warier and kept reminding himself not to let her pry out information from him.
Meanwhile, before Freda left, Carla exhorted her repeatedly, "Remember what I said! You must dig out the truth from Benard."
"Understood." Freda nodded.
"Go on, then." Carla gestured for her to leave, and she hurried out.
Ever since Carla discovered by chance that Zayn would lose his sight intermittently, she had suspected that something was wrong with his health. Although she had sent Freda to investigate it, she did not find anything.
When she met Zayn earlier that day, she thought he looked rather pallid. Even his eyes seemed clouded. At that observation, worry gnawed at her.
Hence, she instructed Freda to ask Benard out and fish for some clues.
Although Freda was brilliant, she could not compare to Benard. With that in mind, Carla taught her a method and told her to act as instructed.
Benard and Freda arrived at the agreed-upon meeting place simultaneously.
After getting into his car, she passed him an apple.
"Thank you!" Delighted, Benard took a bite of it.
Seeing how happy he looked, Freda felt conflicted. Although he seemed like a capable man, he was actually easily coaxed. She promised to bring him some homemade food but only got him an apple as she did not have the time to cook. Yet, he was still contented with it.
"Thank you for today, " said Freda. "Sir Carl is simply too much. We were already prepared to take action, but we didn't expect Mr. Giblo to rush over and solve the problem."
"Although their relationship is very tense now, Mr. Giblo still cares about Ms. Lierger deeply. He won't ignore her if she's in trouble, " said Benard seriously. "If anything happens in the future, you must inform me in time. If we hadn't spotted Sir Carl's car while descending the mountain, things would have been messy."
"Ms. Lierger doesn't want to be indebted to Mr. Giblo." She sighed. "I think that they care about each other deeply too. It's really pointless for their relationship to remain like this."
"I understand where Ms. Lierger is coming from, though. After all, the Giblo family has harmed her greatly in the past. Family grudges can't be forgotten so easily."
He added, "However, from another perspective, she should put the past behind her now that Mr. Jombo is dead, and Solara and the Bendays have fallen from grace. Furthermore, since Mr. Lierger is missing now, the two families should join forces and work together."
"That's what I think too. It's just that Ms. Lierger has too many concerns. Perhaps, they just need more time. Let's take it slow, " she remarked woefully.
"We can't take it any slower, " Benard blurted out. "Time won't wait for us."
"What?" Freda shot him a puzzled glance.
He explained hastily, "Oh, I mean that the children are growing up, and they need their parents' love. Plus, Lierger Corporation is in a crisis now, and Ms. Lierger needs Mr. Giblo's help. We should think of a way to reconcile them."
"You're right. That's what I had in mind, too, " she concurred.
"Great!" Benard was delighted. If Freda were willing to cooperate, it would be much easier.
"I need to leave in ten minutes." Freda glanced at her watch. "Dr. Goman is coming over later."
"Naya? Is she going to treat Ms. Lierger's wound? How is her recovery going?"
In response, she sighed. "Not great. It's been hurting terribly for the past two days. I even have to help wash her face in the morning."
